Quetzalcoatl is the Feathered Serpent, a god of the Aztecs and the wider peoples of Mesoamerica, known to the Maya as Kukulkan. He appears as a snake covered in the shining green feathers of the quetzal bird, joining the earth he moves across to the sky his feathers reach toward. He is a god of the wind and the breath of life, the patron of priests, and the giver of learning itself: writing, the calendar, and books. Where other gods demand worship, Quetzalcoatl gives knowledge.
