Menace

A will o' the wisp is a small, flickering light that hovers over bogs and marshes at night, and if you follow it, you will not come home. It is a lantern carried by a mischievous spirit, known in different places as Will or Jack, whose only purpose is to lead travelers off the safe path and out into the mire. Walk toward the light and it drifts back, always staying just ahead, always seeming worth one more step. By the time you realize the trick, the solid ground is far behind you.
