The hag is an evil old woman from European folklore, and her most feared form is the Night Hag. She comes while you sleep, sits on your chest, and fills your mind with nightmares, leaving you awake but unable to move or breathe. The Germans call her the mære and the Norse the mara, all the same night visitor. She is an ancient figure, older than the Christian faith that recast her as a demon.
