A jengu is a water spirit from the coastal peoples of Cameroon, including the Duala and the Bakweri. The jengu live in the rivers and the sea, and they carry messages between the living and their ancestors while healing the sick. Fishermen pray to them before setting out on the water. Their worship is part of the Ngondo tradition, which the wider world formally recognized in 2024.
