The Lubber Fiend, also called Lob Lie-by-the-Fire, is a hairy giant from English folklore who does a farm's heaviest work at night. In a single night, he can thresh more grain than ten men could thresh in a day. He asks only for a bowl of cream and a warm spot by the fire. If the family insults him or tries to pay him with clothes, he leaves and takes the farm's luck with him.
