A shadow person is a dark, featureless human figure that you catch at the very edge of your vision, gone the moment you turn to look. It wants only to be near you and to fill you with dread. One version of it wears a brimmed hat and is known everywhere as the Hat Man. Shadow people loom in doorways, follow at the corner of the eye, and sometimes settle their weight on a sleeper's chest and simply watch.
