Threat

The tengu are the spirits of Japan's mountains and forests, and they have never quite decided whether to be demons or protectors. They usually appear as red-faced, long-nosed beings with wings, though the smallest of them look more like crows. In their early days they were feared as omens of war and stealers of the unwary, but over the centuries they softened into guardians of the high country and unmatched masters of the sword. Even so, a wise traveler minds his manners in tengu country.
