Threat

The kraken is the largest creature in the northern seas, so vast that sailors have anchored to its back believing it an island, only to drown when it woke and dove. It has haunted the waters off Norway and Greenland since the earliest Norse writings, a mountain of grasping arms that drags whole ships under and tears open whirlpools deep enough to swallow the wreckage. A Norwegian bishop even described it as a real animal of the deep in 1752. Every account since has only made it larger.
