Threat

The yeti lives in the highest snows of the Himalayas, above the last of the villages in Nepal and Tibet, and the Sherpa have always known it is there. It is a large, shaggy creature that walks upright on two legs, leaving enormous footprints in the snow. In 1951 a mountaineer named Eric Shipton photographed a line of those tracks on a glacier near Mount Everest, and the pictures carried the yeti's fame around the world. The tracks led on over a rise and out of sight, as they always do.
